Training Run On Hapuna Beach

Sunset at Hapuna Beach after my run.
Three days ago, I decided to do my run on the beach...barefoot...in the sand... Um, WTF was I thinking??? My calves are still killing me!! I'll tell you though, if I ran on the beach like that all the time, my leg muscles would be ridiculously enormous! The run was very enjoyable though... I wasn't wearing my Garmin, so I have no idea how far I went, but I really got in a good workout. Everytime a wave came in, I incorporated high-knees in. It was fun. I also practiced toe striking, which is not how I usually run, but felt nice on the sand.

  1. Sounds like you are having an awesome time :D I have to ask though as I am not a runner, what is toe striking? It sounds painful :O

I hope you continue to have a great time and keep showing that wind who's boss...!

    1. Toe striking means running with your front of your foot touching down first (opposed to a flat strike or heel strike.)

  2. Do you ever run in minimalist shoes? My husband is a complete nut about 5-Fingers (I can't stand the way they feel) and other minimalist mono-toed shoes.

    1. I used to run in Vibram 5 finger.. or whatever they were called. I used them on trails..that were very soft, and on the treadmill, but pavement was out of the question, no matter what they claim. I didn't give them long though..I was running a lot back then, and I didn't want to risk changing my running so drastically at the time; with as many races as I was doing. I wish that I had stuck with that decision now...
